St. John’s Celebrate Reaching The Gold Standard

25th Mar 2026

The Flahavan’s Athletics NI Primary School Cross Country league may have ended for the 2025-26 season, but St John’s are still celebrating their outstanding achievement of two NI XC titles in a row!
After overcoming tough competition, St. John’s finished top of the boys leaderboard to be crowned 2026 Boys Team winners, with the girls finishing  a credible 10th overall in NI. Congratulations to all the runners involved from P5, P6 and P7 this year.
To recognise this fabulous performance, the pupils were presented with the Winning Shield and their individual awards. After the presentation the boys and girls also enjoyed an exclusive training session led by Athletics NI  coach Luke Dinsmore and ANI ambassador, Ben Sykes.

There was even more cause for celebration today, as it was announced that Grace and Tadhg have been selected for the NI Endurance Squad. This initiative brings together the top 20 boys and girls from the XC Final to support their personal and sport specific development. Hard luck to Sean, who just missed out by one position.

A further report will be published in the Irish News and ANI Primary Schools XC League.
