Congratulations to all the boys and girls who took part in the Primary Schools Cross Country League at Palace Stables. The conditions were typical of a Cross Country race in Winter, mud, mud and more mud! Nevertheless the St. John's runners embraced the conditions and crossed the finish line with smiling faces. Well done.
With the runners having already competed at Banbridge and Lurgan, Armagh was the final chance to secure a low score in the league this season. The race was approximately 1400m, spread over a hilly and very slippery course which would see several tumbles.
Fun Run Girls:
Well done to Anna and Mollie who both finished inside the top ten.
Fun Run Boys:
Cillian topped the podium and secured a comfortable 1st place, closely followed by Jack, Oisin, Alfie, Sheá, John Joe, Jack and Daithi. The boys recorded some impressive times and worked as a team, five of them finishing in the top ten.
Girls' Race
After a chaotic start, Grace settled in and controlled the race right to the finish line to secure 1st place.
She was closely followed by Niamh, Sarah, Annie, Ciara & Muireann. Well done!
Boys' Race
With one eye on a spot at the XC final in Mallusk next month, the boys knew that they needed to record a low team score. Tadhg set the tone and cruised home in 1st place followed by Darragh in 3rd and Seán in 4th, super!
The remaining runners all finished inside the top 15 places giving St. John's an incredible team score of 19. Thanks to Daire, Joey and Padraig for putting in a great performance.
Hopefully this strong performance will secure the boys an invite to the NI Final next month.
Many thanks to the parents who braved the cold and muddy conditions to support the runners. Also, thanks to Joe Girvin for lending his coaching expertise and preparing all the pupils for their respective races.
The staff really enjoyed the racing and travelled back to the Moy on a very happy bus! Thanks.
